DRP S/Insp. Brian Fazackerley had the unique opportunity to revisit his home town high school to teach diverse inner-city youth a lesson in music and teamwork.
S/Insp. Fazackerley discovered drumming to be his life passion in the 1960s as a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps at De La Salle College in Toronto. Now he is the lead drummer in the Durham Regional Police Pipes and Drums.
On Wednesday June 16, S/Insp. Fazackerley, along with a fellow alumnus of De La Salle College hosted drum lessons for children in Grades 6 to 8 from St. Paul’s Elementary School. Now in its ninth year, the team building day aims to build confidence and communication skills in the kids who have the opportunity to attend.
“If just one of these kids decides to pursue drumming, that would be worth it,” says S/Insp. Fazackerley, noting that having a passion for drumming and practicing in a team environment benefitted him immeasurably while growing up.
