  Men's Walk Against Domestic Violence

Jun 19, 2010 12:24 ET

Every day in Durham Region, police are called to 14 separate incidents involving domestic violence.

To shine a light on this major social problem, Chief Constable Mike Ewles, Deputy Chief Sherry Whiteway and some members of East Division squeezed into some red pumps and walked with other citizens and dignitaries in the 2nd Annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes in support of Bethesda House.

The large crowds on hand as part of the annual Fabulous Fifties Festival in old downtown Bowmanville gave a warm and receptive round of applause to the police officers walking with the red shoes during the big event held on Saturday, June 19th.

Domestic violence continues to be a problem in our communities and the DRPS supports all initiatives that highlights this problem and encourages couples to seek assistance and support if they are in an abusive relationship.
