Inspecting Trucks to Keep Roads Safe

Jan 14, 2011 11:45 ET

Durham Regional Police officers have been working closely with the Ministry of Transportation to ensure large trucks are operating safely on our roads.

A safety inspection station was set up near the intersection of Lakeridge Road and Regional Road 21 and officers directed dump trucks and other large vehicles in for a safety inspection. Officers and ministry inspectors braved the -20C weather conditions throughout the two days to get the job done.

Forty-five trucks had been inspected by mid-morning on Thursday, resulting in 10 trucks being taken out of service for either safety or licencing reasons. Several other trucks were found to have shifted and unsafe loads.

The DRPS would like to thank the Region of Durham, Scugog Township and the Ministry of Education for their ongoing assistance with these road safety blitzes.
