The Durham Regional Police Service came together on May 9 to raise funds for cancer research in support of Cst. Dana Edwards and her recent battle with cancer. Collectively, the event was able to raise almost $5,000.
What began as a small fundraiser, organized by Edwards’ East Division B platoon, quickly turned into a Service-wide initiative in conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society and Cops for Cancer. More than 50 DRPS members and their friends and families shaved their heads in support of Edwards, including her entire platoon.
“It’s amazing how what started as a small fundraiser has become such a large event,” said Edwards. “That they have also recruited members across DRPS is truly heart-warming.”
Those who shaved their heads or made a minimum $10 pledge received a barbeque lunch donated by DRPS members. Two local hair stylists, Dale Vanderveen and Deb Phillips, also gave their time and skills for the event.
Special thanks to all of our members who helped with this great initiative.
