Jun 24, 2011 11:17 ET

The Law Enforcement Torch Run completed its trek through Durham on June 23 with the south route that carried the “Flame of Hope” through Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Clarington.

The Run took a small break at Regional Headquarters in Whitby for a ceremony thanking all of the event’s organizers, runners, volunteers and sponsors. Chief Mike Ewles, Deputy Chief Scott Burns and the Torch Run Executive Sponsor Gilles le Riche each took turns applauding the selfless efforts of all those involved in the 24th anniversary of the event. Also speaking was torch-bearer Ryan Colpitts who presented a $2,500 cheque from his fundraising efforts.

“I am fiercely proud of the commitment and determination of all those who took part in the Torch Run this year,” said Chief Ewles. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Special Olympics Ontario for many years to come, and wish the athletes the very best of luck in Athens for the World Summer Games.”

Following the ceremony, a lunch was held with food and drinks generously donated by Boston Pizza, Whitby Metro Stores and Garden Street Café. DRPS would like to thank all of the Run’s many sponsors, all of whom were acknowledged below for their continued support:
