A large contingent of DRPS officers and civilian staff joined thousands of officers from other police services today to pay their last respects at the funeral service for York Regional Police Cst. Garrett Styles.
The 32-year-old officer, a seven-year veteran of the York Regional Police Service, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 48 near Herald Road in the Town of East Gwillimbury while conducting a traffic stop.
Durham Regional Police Chief Constable Mike Ewles led our 225-member contingent as they marched in Tuesday's funeral. We have a proud and long-standing relationship with the York Regional Police and stand by our YRPS brothers and sisters in this time of extreme hardship.
Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go the Styles' family and all members of the YRPS.
