Members of DRP, the Police Association and the Police Services Board headed to New York in honour of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the tragedy and several memorials are scheduled to take place.
On Sep. 9 our members will be at the Police Memorial Parade at Battery Park during the day and will attend the Canadian Consulate in the evening. They have also been invited to a private ceremony in midtown Manhattan for Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9 Firehouse. This is the only firehouse in New York to lose every member of the hall while responding to the 9-11 attacks.
They will conclude their time in New York by attending the ceremony at Ground Zero on Sun. Sep. 11.
Our members have dedicated their own time and resources in order to attend these important events and the Durham Regional Police would like to encourage everyone to take some time on September 11th to pay your respects to the 2,977 people who perished that day.
