Special Olympics Picks Up a Big Fare

Nov 23, 2011 10:54 ET

Durham Regional Police's charity of choice -- Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) -- got a big boost from the local transit authority at a special presentation before Regional Council on Nov. 23.

Deputy Chief Sherry Whiteway and Staff Sergeant Karen Moloney, a long time supporter of Special Olympics, were on hand for a $42,000 cheque presentation made to SOO from Durham Transit. The money came from Durham Transit's recent golf tournament.

The money will be used by SOO to enrich local programs and services for physically and mentally challenged citizens. The DRPS has long supported SOO and has organized Torch Runs for many years in support of local programs and services.

Congratulations, Durham Transit, for helping some very special athletes!
