"Thanks for doing this!"
"We really appreciate you doing these RIDE checks, officer!"
These were some of the many comments from motorists and their passengers in Oshawa Saturday night after the division set up a R.I.D.E. check on Simcoe Street near Hall Street.
It was all hands on deck as officers from frontline patrol, CRU, CIB and the Target Team rolled up their sleeves and checked drivers along a long checkpoint line on a bitter cold evening. The response from the motoring public was fantastic as no one seemed to mind the minor inconvenience.
The evening did generate results: about 1200 vehicles were stopped, several Roadside tests were administered , one Novice Driver registered above zero and one 3 day suspension was issued.
Three people were arrested for possession of controlled substances. One man was found in possession of 5 1/2 ounces of marihuana, with a street value of about $2,500.
