  Final 2011 Festive R.I.D.E. Results

The seventh and final week of the 2011 Festive R.I.D.E. campaign concluded with another 17 people charged with various drinking and driving offences.

This brings the total to 155 people charged with drinking and driving offences during the 2011 Festive R.I.D.E. campaign, a new record high exceeding the 2008 campaign results in which 152 motorists were charged.

The totals for the seven weeks of Festive R.I.D.E. 2011 (with the 2010 totals in brackets for comparison purposes) are:

8,494 (10,282) vehicles were stopped by R.I.D.E.
573 (585) people were given Roadside Breath Tests
126 (131) people received “3 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
2 (11) Drivers Under 22 years received a 24hr Licence Suspension
14 (11) Novice Drivers (G1/G2) received a 24hr Licence Suspension
155 (138) People were charged with Drinking and Driving Offences
222 Criminal Code Alcohol Based Charges were laid against the 155 people
67 (63) G1 G2 / Young Driver License Holder Breaches of No Alcohol Condition
1 (22) Arrest for other Criminal Code infractions
17 – Criminal Code Charges Laid
15 (13) Arrests for Drug Offences
19 (N/A) Drug Charges Laid
308 (285) charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences

Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with a drinking and driving criminal offence will have his or her driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and there vehicle impounded for seven days. Durham Regional Police would like to advise all motorists that drinking and driving will not be tolerated on our streets.
