  Team Leader Applications Being Accepted for 2012 Youth In Policing Initiative

Please note: This posting is only available for students who have previously graduated from the DRPS Youth In Policing Initiative. The general application for the 2012 Youth In Policing student positions will be posted in February.

DRPS is now accepting resumes for the 2012 Youth In Policing Team Leader positions!

The Youth In Policing Initiative is run in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and will engage the students in positive, productive activities in a safe and healthy environment. This is an eight-week paid summer student position. The hours will be approximately 40 per week, from Monday – Friday, beginning June 25 through to August 16, 2012. Additional tasks and supervisory training will be required before the initiative begins.

The goal of the initiative is to inspire our youth to look at the many different aspects of policing as a career choice and to empower students to become ambassadors for the Durham Regional Police Service, their schools and community. As ambassadors, the students will work to improve police and community relations and work closely with members of the police service to learn leadership, team building and communication skills.

As a Team Leader, the core responsibilities and duties are:
• To directly lead and supervise the Youth In Policing students
• To set a positive example for all students in the program
• To create and uphold a safe and respectful environment for all students
• To mentor the students within the assigned team groups and work to help them set goals and develop their skills throughout the summer
• Other duties as assigned
