Durham Regional Police, along with the O.P.P., Toronto Poilce Service, York Regional Police and the Provincial Forfeiture Asset Unit, assisted Halton Regional Police Service with an investigation into ATM skimming.
In early January, a group of individuals were identified in relation to numerous skimming incidents at various gas stations across the GTA. The suspects were responsible for over $300,000 in losses to debit card customers and financial institutions.
On Jan. 31, eight warrants were executed and 12 individuals were arrested and officers seized:
- $40,000 in Canadian currency
- Instruments used to forge credit cards
- Numerous fraudulent credit cards
- Three motor vehicles
No one arrested and charged resided in Durham Region however, fraudulent cards were used in the region.
