  DRP Welcomes Our Newest Members

Feb 21, 2012 09:54 ET

It was standing room only when, after a six-month training program, 19 citizens joined the Durham Regional Police Service’s Auxiliary Unit at a graduation ceremony held at the Col. R.S. McLaughlin Armoury in Oshawa on Feb. 17. The candidates were chosen from a field of over 180 applicants.

The new Auxiliary officers were inspected by Durham Regional Police Chief Mike Ewles, Deputy Chief Sherry Whiteway, Chair Roger Anderson, Inspector Charlie Green and Auxiliary Inspector Louise Elborn before receiving their certificates.

Class valedictorian and recipient of the Bob Russell Outstanding Recruit Award Aux/Cst. Dale Gallea spoke about the trust, respect and friendships that have formed after months of training.

Deputy Chief Whiteway participated in her last formal parade before her official retirement on Feb. 23. The unit surprised her with three cheers to recognize her unwavering support during her time with the Durham Regional Police Service.

Numerous officers and Auxiliary officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police, Hamilton Police, Peel Regional Police, York Regional Police, Cobourg Police Service, Peterborough Lakefield Police Service and Halton Regional Police, as well as family and friends, were all on hand to help welcome our newest members.

The Durham Regional Police would like to congratulate our new Auxiliary members and wish them the best in their new endeavour.
