The Durham Regional Police Service Law Enforcement Torch Team will trade handcuffs for hockey sticks to take on legendary hockey heroes at the Oldtime Hockey Challenge for Special Olympics later this month.
The Oldtimer Hockey Challenge is designed to give fans and players alike an opportunity to celebrate a common joy of the game while at the same time raising much needed funds for worthy organizations. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket will go to the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Hockey Hall of Famers Steve Shutt and Billy Smith will join the Legendary Hockey Heroes Craig Muni, Gaston Gingras, Igor Kravchuk, Todd Warriner, Gary Leeman, Daniel Marios, Jeff O’Neil and Mike Johnson. Referee is Ron Hoggarth.
The Oldtimers’ Hockey Challenge will also feature a Laser and Pyro Show, DRPS Piper and Honour Guard and a game between a Tyke Hockey Team and the Legends Hockey Heroes during intermission. Chief for a Day Owen Lawrie will also be in attendance to cheer on the DRPS Law Enforcement Team.

The Oldtimers’ Hockey Challenge is family fun entertainment appearing in over 50 cities from coast to coast in Canada. It’s the most successful tour of its kind in North America and raises money for charity in each city it visits.
