Mar 29, 2012 13:20 ET

DRP’s East Division Youth Team, along with the Clarington Parent Police Coalition team, learned all about Internet safety at a meeting on Mar. 26.

More than 75 parents, educators and students attended Mother Theresa Catholic School to listen to Detective Randy Norton, of our Internet Child Exploitation Unit, talk about Internet safety, luring, sexting, Twitter and Facebook.

“This was a very informative session,” said Youth Officer Cst. Dave Swaine, “It was a real eye opener for everyone in attendance about the dangers of the Internet.”

The Clarington Parent Police Coalition Team is a collaboration of parents of elementary and high school students, educators and East Division Youth Officers who attend meetings once a month to discuss various topics including, Internet safety, cyber bullying, drugs and substance abuse, new drug trends , the Youth Justice Act and other community concerns.

Our officers hope to host an annual meeting to keep the community abreast of social media and criminal trends relating to sexual offences.
