  Helping Victims Speak Out

Apr 23, 2012 13:49 ET

Raising awareness for victims of crime is the focus of a week-long campaign by the Canadian government. “Moving Forward” is the theme of the seventh annual National Victims of Crime Awareness Week, which runs from Apr. 22 – 28.

Durham Regional Police partners with Victim Services of Durham Region, a community based, not-for-profit, program funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, Ontario Victim Services to provide emotional support and practical assistance to victims of crime and tragic circumstance.

As a part of this year’s campaign, the Internet Child Exploitation unit will be hosting an information session on how to safeguard your children against internet-based crimes. The session will be held on Thurs. Apr. 26 at Regional Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E in Whitby. Please view the attached flyer for more information.

DRP would like to encourage anyone who has been a victim of a crime, or if you know someone who has, to please contact Victim Services of Durham Region at vcars@drps.ca for assistance and/or advice.
