Jun 15, 2012 13:48 ET

After a winter of practicing for the upcoming competition season, the Durham Regional Police Pipe Band came out of hibernation to compete in the 37th Annual Georgetown Highland Games at the Georgetown Fairgrounds.

New Pipe Major Michael Lasseter and new Drum Sgt. Regan Jones led the band to a first place finish in the Grade Four Band Competition out of a field of 13. They also took first place for the best bass section and drummer Steve Hepburn Jr. took third prize in the Grade Three Solo Drumming event.

Formed in 1996, the band has performed at formal police ceremonies, local parades and pipe band competitions. The group has travelled across the province to compete at various highland games and works hard to represent dedication and team work for the service.

The Durham Regional Police Pipe Band will be participating in the following competitions throughout the year:
Embro - July 1
Kincardine - July 7
Cambridge - July 21
Maxville, the North American Championships - August 4
Fergus - August 11
Almonte - August 25

The group will also be joining police bands from across the country in parade at the Canadian Police Memorial in Ottawa on Sun. Sept. 30, 2012.
