Building on the momentum of a hockey game earlier this year, members of DRPS joined three teams from Ontario Shores and Durham Mental Health Services (DMHS) for a baseball tournament in Whitby.
“DRP officers work closely with members of Ontario Shores and DMHS and these games provide a fun atmosphere to enjoy some camaraderie and team work,” says DRPS Cst. Scott Logan with the Mental Health Support Unit. “It really helps build positive relations and break down barriers.”
The day began with a ceremonial pitch that featured Olympic Mountain Biker Emily Batty of Brooklin, Executive Director of DMHS, Rob Adams, Executive VP of Clinical Services Ontario Shores, Sheila Neuburger and DRPS Superintendent Brian Osborne.
Players hit the two ball diamonds located on Ontario Shores property and spent the rest of the sunny day enjoying some friendly competition.
Back in February members of the DRPS Mental Health Support Unit organized a hockey game with Ontario Shores to create a positive experience for everyone involved. The event was a huge success that eventually lead to plans for a summer baseball tournament. The hope is that these team efforts will continue with all partners involved.
Thanks to everyone involved who made this day a great success.
