Local Residents Learn about Crime Prevention

Sep 24, 2012 11:01 ET

Members of the DRPS Crime Prevention Unit recently conducted an educational seminar in Ajax to offer tips and advice on how to keep homes and neighbourhoods safe.

The group heard from Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Morgen Dobson, Cst. Hermano Dorego from the West Division Property Crimes Unit, and Cst. Marten Wind from the Crime Prevention Unit. DRP members discussed the importance of knowing what’s normal in your neighbourhood and contacting police if you see anything out of the ordinary.

Residents also heard about securing their homes and vehicles and putting measures in place to avoid becoming the target of intruders. Cst. Wind displayed several items to help residents properly secure windows and doors.

Anyone interested in forming a Neighbourhood Watch group in their neighbourhood, or to find out if one already exists can email: neighwatch@drps.ca.

Several crime prevention tips can be found on our website at www.drps.ca under Community Services.
