The 2012 Durham Regional Police Service Food and Toy Drive got a big helping hand on Dec. 6 when they attended the Darlington OPG location to pick up food and toys for families in Durham Region.
Six trucks were filled with their generous donations, made by members of the plant. Any monetary donations made were used to purchase gift cards and presents for those hard to buy age groups, babies and teens. “Every year, OPG never ceases to amaze us,” said Cst. Hawrychuk. “We are especially grateful as they go out and buy specific gifts to meet the needs of the community.”
This year, OPG members went one step further by donating a truck full of gently-used office furniture that they had on hand after doing some office renovations. These donations were taken to local charities for distribution.
If you would like to help out, please bring unwrapped toys or food to any police station in Durham Region, any fire hall in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax or Clarington and to participating stores prior to Dec. 22nd. The Drive is struggling to fill the requests for boys and girls, from age 9 – 14.
Priority is always given to needy families in Durham Region. If your family is in need of food or toys this holiday season, please contact a local agency or church and they will see we get your information.

Thank you again to those of you who have already generously donated to the Drive.
