Durham Regional Police, in partnership with the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation, launched the Future Aces Positive Ticketing program at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School in Whitby.
The Future Aces Positive Ticketing program was developed through the Herbert H. Carnegie FUTURE ACES Foundation and is based on the premise of police officers acknowledging young people in our schools and communities, caught in the act of demonstrating positive behaviour and good decision-making skills.
Future Aces Positive Tickets will be issued by Durham Regional Police officers. The attributes of the Future ACES Philosophy are printed on the back of the ticket to encourage the students to live up to and model the values of the creed in their daily lives.
The program was brought to Durham Region by Elementary School Liaison Cst. Angela Sitaram. “I wanted to bring this program to Durham to help kids have a positive first experience with police,” said Cst. Sitaram. “That way, if they need help in the future, they’ll hopefully turn to us for advice and guidance.”
Executive Director of the Herbert H. Carnegie FUTURE ACES Foundation Bernice Carnegie taught the students about her father’s life and the history of the foundation. She taught them all to strive for what they want to achieve and not to listen to the negative voices out there. “Wake up every day, look at yourself in the mirror and say ‘I like myself’,” encouraged Bernice. “It will help you start each day with a positive attitude and that attitude will spread to your family, friends and classmates.”
Several community partners were on hand to receive thanks for their assistance with helping this program come to fruition. The Town of Ajax, The Municipality of Clarington, The City of Oshawa, The City of Pickering, the Township of Scugog, the Town of Whitby, Mac’s Milk Convenience Stores, McDonalds Restaurants of Durham, Pizza Hut and Starr Burger were all recognized as good citizens and recipients of the Future ACES Positive Tickets will receive coupons donated by these partners to be redeemed in their communities.
The Herbert H. Carnegie FUTURE ACES Foundation was founded in 1987 and is a non-profit registered charitable organization. The foundation works with hundreds of schools and organizations throughout Ontario and beyond to celebrate and foster positive behaviour in youth.
