DRP officers from across Durham Region brought some festive cheer to local seniors as they celebrated the third annual Senior’s Christmas event.
Our officers visited over 1,000 seniors right across Durham Region and spent their time sharing stories and treats. Over 300 seniors were provided with personalized gifts on behalf of DRPS and 75 community members participated by providing music for the events. Five of our DRPS Youth in Policing Students assisted officers with planning and organization.
Since its inception in 2010, the event has grown from one residence in Oshawa to long term care residences right across Durham. “The response and generosity over the past few years has been overwhelming,” says Cst. Janine Henderson. “From the officers who volunteered their time, to all of the community agencies who donated items, we were able to reach out right across Durham Region and spend some quality time with the seniors.”
The officers who participated this year are as follows;
Cst. Jason Gomez and Cst. Danny Mitchell
Cst. Art Baine
Central East Division
Cst. Stefanie Puckrin
Central West Division
Cst. Angela Sitaram
Cst. Charlyn Craik
A special thank you to Inspector Bruce Townley who provided leadership support and to our sponsors Peacock (family) Promotional, local Tim Hortons and the Wal-Mart Superstore in Oshawa.
The hope is that the event will continue to grow in the years to come. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to bring the joy of the season to our seniors.
