Jan 15, 2013 10:42 ET

The DRP Robbery Unit was presented with a National Award by Jewellers Vigilance Canada Inc. (JVC) for their outstanding work investigating a violent robbery.

On Sept. 18, 2012, masked assailants robbed an Oshawa jewelry store. One was armed with a hammer, and the two business owners were attacked and received multiple injuries. Two of the suspects have been arrested and charged, while a warrant is out for a third male.

JVC President Duncan Parker praised the work of the investigative team and thanked the Robbery Unit for its tenacity and commitment throughout the lengthy investigation. The Law Enforcement Award of Merit was created to recognize officers who go above and beyond the call of duty when investigating crimes against Canadian jewelers.

JVC is an independent, non-profit association that advances ethical practices and crime prevention education for the Canadian jewelry and watch industry.
