The DRP Drug Enforcement Unit would like to make citizens aware of a drug that was recently seized in Western Canada.
A shipment of drugs was seized and it contained cocaine, Ecstasy, Oxycontin and an unknown substance. Upon analysis, the substance was identified as a combination of trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine (TFMPP) and benzylpiperazine (BZP), commonly known as “Legal X.” The drug was transformed into brown, pink and yellow cubes, resembling a cough drop that could easily be confused as a candy by children.
In 2012 both TFMPP and BZP were made Schedule III substances under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
To date, there haven’t been any reports of Legal X in Durham Region; however, we would like to promote awareness in our community to ensure the safety of our citizens.
