The DRP’s Heat Band has released their second CD entitled “I Am Who I Am,” a campaign started at a Pickering high school aimed at honouring the equality and worth of all people. The goal is to inspire students, parents, staff and community members to support and accept each other by learning, working and living together.
Cst. Scott Dargie, and the rest of the Heat band, decided to build on the positive messaging by creating their follow up CD to “Bullies Ain’t Tough” on that theme and distribute it to local schools. Approximately 10,000 copies have been delivered to schools in the past six weeks. The students from Pineridge Secondary School designed the cover art.
The campaign was originally dedicated to the late Mitchell Wilson and “I Am Who I Am” bracelets were sold to raise money for a motorized wheelchair for another student in Mitchell’s honour and memory. More than $19,000 was raised and donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
