It is with deep sadness and regret that the Durham Regional Police has learned of the on-duty death of an officer in Quebec.
Constable Steve Dery, 27, who grew up in Ottawa but worked for the Kativik Regional Police Force in northern Quebec, was fatally shot when responding to a domestic dispute. When Cst. Dery and a second officer arrived on scene, they were fired upon by a male. The second officer was wounded and, after a long standoff, the gunman was found dead inside the house where police believe he committed suicide.
On behalf of all members of Durham Regional Police, heartfelt condolences go out to Constable Dery's family and friends.
