Turning Up the Heat at a Local School

Apr 25, 2013 14:22 ET

DRP’s Heat Band rocked West Creek Public School in Pickering this morning with a concert showcasing their latest CD entitled “I Am Who I Am.”

During the performance, the band took the time to speak to the students about bullying and what they thought “I Am Who I Am” means. The kids had some great answers about just being themselves, loving themselves and that it’s ok to be different.

The “I Am Who I Am” campaign started at a Pickering high school and honours the equality and worth of all people. The goal is to inspire students, parents, staff and community members to support and accept each other by learning, working and living together.

Approximately 10,000 copies of the CD have been delivered to schools this year and students from Pineridge Secondary School designed the cover art.

Our DRP Heat Band is made up of DRP members and two volunteers. Csts. Scott Dargie, Bernie Fitzpatrick and Matt Forget and Communicator Shellie Taylor join Whitby residents Keith Carcasole and Jeff Pearson at events across the Region. For more information about the band you can email Cst. Dargie at sdargie@drps.ca.
