Durham Regional Police members will be participating in two community events this weekend in Ajax. Representatives from West Division will be attending the Women’s Multicultural Resource Centre of Durham’s 20th anniversary dinner on June 15, and the Ajax Waterfront Festival on June 16.
The anniversary dinner is being held at La Roya Banquet Hall and will feature musical and entertainment performances from local multicultural groups. Funds from the event will benefit the Women’s Multicultural Resource Centre of Durham, which provides counseling and support to women of all ages, and their families from diverse backgrounds.
Ajax’s Waterfront Festival is open to the public at Rotary Park, and a part of the 43rd annual Ajax Home Week. DRPS will be hosting a full display of community services, including representatives from OPG, CN Rail, GO Transit and OPP. The display provides an opportunity to get up-close with a number of police units and vehicles, including the K-9 unit, new and historical vehicles, the Pride vehicle and the Mobile Command and Logistics vehicles. Shortly after noon, the DRPS helicopter, Air 1, will be landing at Rotary Park to join the festivities, and provide the public with a chance to get next to the “eye in the sky” for pictures.
OPG security officers will also have their Light Armour Vehicles and fire services vehicles on display, while CN Rail officers will have a train set demonstrating the unique challenges faced by their officers.
The festivities get underway at 10 a.m. and features live music, a wide-range of food and drinks, plus games and activities for both kids and adults alike.
