  New Video from Officer Astrid

Jun 25, 2013 12:03 ET

This month in our video segment of "Safety Tips with Officer Astrid", she talks to kids and their caregivers about the importance of traffic safety.

With the end of the school year quickly approaching, there will be more and more children on roads and sidewalks. And while in the video Officer Astrid will be talking directly to kids to share this valuable information, we want to remind adults to take the time to talk to our youth about roadway safety. Pedestrians should look both ways and cross at the beginning of a green light: never on a red light. Make sure to be seen by motorists by wearing bright or light coloured clothing, especially when walking at night. If possible make eye contact with drivers before crossing to make sure that they see you. Be aware of traffic turning at intersections and entering or leaving driveways.

Motorists should slow down in residential areas and school zones: children often dart out into traffic. When children and the elderly are crossing, motorists should be patient. It is important for drivers to check mirrors and blind spots on a regular basis to keep aware of the surroundings.

This video is also available on our YouTube channel, along with the rest of our safety videos.

Stay tuned for next month’s video on water safety.
