Kicking Off the 25th Annual Food and Toy Drive

Nov 14, 2013 10:00 ET

Santa paid an early visit to Durham Region when he stopped by Lester B. Pearson Public School to help us kick off the 25th Annual DRPS Food and Toy Drive. DRPS Chief Mike Ewles, Chief for a Day Mackenzie Jessup, Inspector Bruce Townley, Inspector Jamie Grant, Food & Toy Drive Coordinator Cst. Paul Hawrychuk, members of DRPS, and a gymnasium full of excited children were on hand to get the season of giving off and running.

Natasha Ramsahai from CityNews hosted the festivities and encouraged everyone to give generously this year to help our community. DRPS Chief for a Day Mackenzie Jessup was also on hand to help present Principal Heather Mundy with a plaque to thank the school for hosting.

Food and Toy Drive coordinator Cst. Paul Hawrychuk was happy to see the amount of support at the launch. “From our Chief to all the members of West Division who joined in and helped us, and Lester B. Pearson, celebrate our 25th anniversaries, was a great way to start our drive,” said Cst. Hawrychuk. “We’re looking forward to a busy six weeks collecting and delivering items to those families who need us across the region.”

The Food and Toy Drive works with more than 90 community agencies to deliver food and toys to thousands of families across Durham Region each year. Members of the community are encouraged to drop items off at local fire halls and police stations.

We would also like to thank our sponsors; without their support the success of the drive would not be possible:
Fraser Ford Sales Ltd.
Marigold Ford Lincoln
Mills Pontiac Buick
Ontario Motor Sales
Durham Kia Motors
Mercedes-Benz Durham
Menzies Chrysler
City of Oshawa Bylaw
City of Pickering
Golding Graphics Ltd.
McDonalds Family Restaurants
Municipality of Clarington
Ontario Power Generation
Swish Maintenance Limited
Williams Communications

And an additional thank you to members of both our Auxiliary and Volunteer Units for the thousands of hours they dedicate throughout the holiday season to ensure the success of the Food and Toy Drive and at community parades.
