Members of West Division launched a six-week, enhanced traffic initiative that will focus on distracted driving, speeding (especially in school zones), impaired driving and aggressive driving.
Traffic issues are an overwhelming concern to the citizens of Ajax and Pickering, and West Division officers will work together with the O.P.P., C.N. police and GO Transit, to help safeguard our roadways. “In 2013, we issued almost 4,500 tickets along two arterial roads: Salem Rd. in Ajax and Brock Rd. in Pickering,” said West Division Traffic Safety Coordinator Cst. Gord Fleming. “Most of the offences were speeding and texting while driving, which is a large area of concern for us. Drivers need to put their phones away when they’re behind the wheel.”
We urge all drivers to take your time and focus on the road when you’re behind the wheel. Better to miss a call or be late to an appointment than suffer the potential consequences.
Do your part to keep our roadways safe.
