The Durham Regional Police Service would like to recognize a group of dedicated citizens, our volunteers, who contributed their time and talents to our organization in 2013.
Members of Volunteer Unit were at 271 events and devoted more than 4,000 hours to the citizens of Durham Region.
Our team shows up at various policing programs such as Racing Against Drugs, the Food and Toy Drive, the DRP Children’s Games, Crime Prevention Week and a variety of other service initiatives. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to run as many community initiatives throughout the year.
Three members received special recognition for their outstanding commitment to the unit this year:
Shirley Lemay was instrumental in the success of both the 2012 and 2013 Food and Toy Drive. For the six weeks that the drive ran, she dedicated more than 40 hours a week to help ensure everyone in the community had a great holiday season.
Ian and Janet Alexander have been volunteers for the past several years and are faithful participants in the collection, sorting and delivery of food and toys for the duration of the drive. Ian can be found putting countless miles on the vehicles, picking up and delivering packages, while Janet works tirelessly to make sure everything is sorted correctly at the warehouse.
Congratulations to all our volunteers and thank you for your ongoing commitment to the community.
