Two DRPS divisions have new Inspectors in charge as of February 1, 2014, as a part of new assignments for senior officers.

With the current retirement of several DRPS personnel, including those within the rank of Inspector, several manpower transfers have occurred to facilitate our organizational needs.

Inspector George Dmytruk will be assigned to Central East Division (Oshawa) and Inspector Bruce Townley is assigned to West Division (Pickering and Ajax).

Inspector Townley has been with DRPS since 1987, when he started as a uniform patrol officer. In 1990, he moved into an investigative role, working with the Intelligence Branch, primarily as an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigator. In 1997, Bruce was promoted to the rank of Detective and spent the next three years as an investigator in the Criminal Investigation Branch in Pickering an Ajax. In 2002, Bruce was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and then made Inspector in 2004, when he was assigned to the Regional Duty Office. In 2006, Bruce was assigned to lead the North Durham Division in Port Perry and he was later assigned to Regional Headquarters as Officer in Charge of Regional Operations, which includes several specialty units including, Tactical Support, Air Support and Court Operations. In 2012, Bruce took on a new position as the Inspector in charge of Investigative Services with the responsibility of overseeing major investigations and the review of investigative policies of the DRPS.

Inspector George Dmytruk is in his 33rd year of policing with DRPS. He started as a uniform patrol officer in Oshawa, where he was in the Hit and Run Unit, as well as a Breathalyzer Technician. In 1991, he moved into an investigative role and was promoted in 1993 to the rank of Detective. In 2001, George was transferred to a Sergeant’s role. In 2003 he was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant and transferred into the Criminal Intelligence Branch. While there, he was the officer in charge of the Drug Enforcement Unit and the Gang Enforcement Unit. In 2007, he was transferred into the Major Crime Branch and became the officer in charge of the Robbery and Fraud Units. In 2011, George moved back to Central East Division as a Staff Sargent. In 2012, George was promoted to the rank of Inspector and assigned to the Regional Duty Office and later that year he was transferred to Professional Standards, where he also took on the role of SIU Liaison Officer.

The three remaining DRPS divisions, North, East and Central West remain under the respective leadership of Inspectors Mitch Colling, Rolf Kluem and Dave Saliba.

In July, Inspector Dave Brown takes on the leadership of the Intelligence Branch, Inspector Jeff Friend takes over the leadership of the Professional Standards Unit and Inspector Adam Kelly takes over the leadership of the Communications/911 Unit.

Inspectors Todd Rollauer and Bruce Kovack will join the Regional Duty Office in July 2014.
