Durham Police Receive ProAction Cops & Kids Awards

Jun 02, 2014 14:32 ET

Two outstanding officers were recognized for their commitment to youth at a recent ProAction Cops & Kids ceremony.

On May 29, 2014, Cst. Stefanie Puckrin was presented with the Chuck Mercier Award that recognizes a police officer who creates the most innovative police-youth program, funded by ProAction. The Dave Wilson Award went to Cst. Terry Rayner for his remarkable level of commitment to police-youth programs.

Also at the event, a Youth Leadership Award was presented to local teen Paige Lane. Det. Brandon Stanway nominated Lane based on her continuous involvement with DRPS and ProAction. The award recognizes youth who have demonstrated a high level of leadership in a ProAction program, across all ProAction chapters. Lane was involved in a number of different programs within Durham. She has proven to be a strong leader who believes anyone, herself included, can accomplish anything they put their heart and mind to.

“I am exceptionally proud of Cst. Puckrin, Cst. Rayner and Paige for their dedication and involvement with ProAction Cops & Kids,” said DRPS ProAction Liaison and Superintendent Brian Osborne. “Our partnership with ProAction Cops & Kids will continue to be important, as we build stronger connections with our community and our youth.”

ProAction Cops & Kids work with police services in Toronto, Durham and Hamilton to fund programs that bring officers and youth together in a positive way, and create new, strong friendships. Their programs include sports such as hockey, soccer and cycling, as well as arts, music, leadership and mentoring programs.

It’s a priority for DRPS to be involved in the community and to guide our future generation on the right path. ProAction Cops & Kids helps us establish a positive relationship between police and kids and will strengthen our community today and for the future.
