  Farewell Reception for the Chief

Jun 08, 2014 17:09 ET

Police Chiefs, Mayors, police officers and other friends gathered in Ajax on Sunday afternoon for a heartfelt goodbye for retiring Chief Mike Ewles.

Regional Chair Roger Anderson, YRPS Chief Eric Jolliffe, YRPS Deputy Chief Tom Carrique, Peterborough Police Chief Murray Rodd and many more dignitaries dropped by the casual reception at Deer Creek to wish the 32-year veteran of the DRPS a healthy and happy retirement. The Mayors of Brock Township, Uxbridge Township and Oshawa also attended, as did several regional councillors.

The DRPS underwent a significant building phase during his seven years at the helm, including the development of the Operations Training Centre in Whitby, significant renovations to the downtown Oshawa station, a new Clarington Division building (underway) and also a new building for forensic investigations (underway).

Chief Ewles thanked his friends and family for their support and assistance over his career and he singled out his wife Cristal and daughter Grace for all of their love and support.

Paul Martin will officially receive the reigns of the DRPS as its seventh Chief at a special Change of Command ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Regional HQ in Whitby.
