DRP Take Part in Third Annual Durham Pride Parade

Jun 10, 2014 11:37 ET

Durham Pride Week ended with a bang as DRP and community members participated in the third annual Pride Parade. The DRPS have been a long-standing supporter of the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender & Questioning (LGBTQ) community and is proud to be a part of this annual parade.

Members of DRP marched in the parade alongside a custom cruiser covered in rainbow decals. In addition, the members also wore T-shirts with rainbow coloured DRPS logos and the slogan “Belong” to show their inclusivity and support. The Durham Pride Parade is just one of the events that occur during Pride Week. Other events like information and awareness nights, dinner and dance galas, movie nights, BBQs and music festivals also took place during Pride Week.

“We had more members out to support the Durham Pride parade this year than we’ve ever had,” said Cst. Pamela Devine, Diversity Co-ordinator. “My hope is to see this event continue to grow in the future.”

Pride Durham is a non-profit organization that hosts Pride and social events in Durham Region including, the annual region-wide Pride Parade the second weekend in June which celebrates the LGBTQ community.

Later this month, DRPS will be participating for the seventh time in the world renowned Toronto Pride Parade. This year Toronto was selected to host World Pride Week from June 20 to 29 and is expected to be the largest pride week to date.
