Officers from West Divisions Community Resource Unit have wrapped up a four-day distracted driving campaign that saw over 100 motorists charged.
The initiative was conducted over a four-day period on July 8 and 9 as well as July 29 and 30, 2014. A total of 121 charges were laid, 111 for using a hand-held electronic device. Three motorists were also charged with driving while under suspension. The enforcement was centered at the intersection of Salem Road and Kingston Road in Ajax.
Driving while distracted is both risky and illegal. The fine under the Highway Traffic Act for the offence is $280.
West Division officers will continue to target problematic areas in Ajax and Pickering in an effort to educate motorists about the dangers of distracted driving.
