  Chief Martin Announces Our New Chief For a Day - Victoria

Durham Police Service would like to thank all contestants and school administrators for their participation in this year’s Chief for a Day contest. Congratulations to Victoria Broomer on her new title and role as 2014 Chief for a Day winner.

Nine-year old Victoria Broomer has been chosen as this year’s Annual Police Chief for a Day after a volunteer committee selected her winning essay at a contest held last Friday.

Victoria is a Grade 5 student from Hillsdale Public School in Oshawa. She will is picked up from her school in a police cruiser and sworn in as Chief for a Day on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Victoria is very excited for the opportunity as she has always wanted to be a police officer.

After her ceremony at police headquarters, her duties will include a tour of the building and visits to the Forensic Identification Unit and Police Education and Innovation Centre before she takes to the sky in Air1. Victoria will receive a Durham Regional Police Chiefs uniform and a gift pack from the police service.

On October 23, 2014, Victoria will attend the 12th Annual Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night (PADAN), at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Hall in Ajax, where she will read her winning essay.

Members of the Media are invited to attend headquarters on October 21, 2014 to cover Chief for a Day activities. A full itinerary will be released when finalized.
