Local Support For Our Special Olympians

Oct 20, 2014 10:02 ET

Members of DRP joined volunteers this weekend to support our local Special Olympians and the many competitions they participate in throughout the year.

Volunteers attended the Oshawa Generals game to sell T-shirts and accept donations throughout the evening.

Deputy Chief Scott Burns joined athletes and team members for the ceremonial puck drop at centre ice. He was assisted by Special Olympics athlete Shayne MacDonald, a seven-year participant who competes in bowling, basketball and Bocce and softball. Grace Morris was also on hand for the puck drop; she has been competing for three years as a figure skater.

The Law Enforcement Torch run is the official charity of the DRPS and members thank community members for their ongoing support of Special Olympics. All funding raised goes directly to the athletes to help them compete on the provincial, national and international levels.
