Crime Prevention Week is upon us and this year we want to encourage our community members to assist us in making Durham Region the safest region in which to live, work and play.
In partnership with the OACP, this years theme is Your Community. Your Safety. Get Involved and it encourages citizens to get involved in crime prevention initiatives in their neighbourhoods.
We are always working towards making our community as safer one for our citizens, said Crime Prevention Cst. Paul Hawrychuk. But in order for us to do so, we rely on our residents and partnerships to provide us with information and support.
The Crime Prevention Unit took feedback from the community and launched the Lock it or Lose it campaign to guard against thefts from vehicles and to remind people the simple act of locking your car and keeping valuables out of sight, can help deter some of those thefts.
Throughout the year, our officers will attend various schools, businesses and community groups to speak about Internet safety, fraud prevention and safe-school initiatives.
We are also utilizing our social media channels, via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to reach more members of the public, as well as share our crime prevention messages.
Education and awareness is key in protecting our communities from crime and, by working together, we can help to ensure everyone feels safe in their neighbourhoods.
Watch for our crime prevention videos this week and please contact your local division or call 1-888-579-1520 if you see any crime activity in your neighbourhood.
