  Festive R.I.D.E Charges 15 With Impaired Driving Offences

The Durham Regional Police R.I.D.E team has completed the first week of its festive R.I.D.E. program across Durham Region. Over a three day period, 15 people were charged with drinking and driving offences and 11 received three day licence suspensions.

Here are the results of the first week:

1,063 vehicles were stopped by R.I.D.E.
52 people were given Roadside Breath Tests
11 people received 3 Day Suspensions for registering a WARN
2 Novice Drivers with a BAC over zero received a 24hr Licence Suspension
15 people were charged with Drinking and Driving Offences
21 Criminal Code Charges were laid against the 15 people charged
8 G1 G2 / Young Driver License Holder Breaches of No Alcohol Condition
33 charged with various Highway Traffic Act offences
3 Arrests for Drug Offences resulting in 2 charges
1 Criminal Code Arrest resulting in 1 charge

Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with a drinking and driving criminal offence will have his or her drivers licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Durham Regional Police would like to remind all motorists that drinking and driving will not be tolerated on our streets. Please use alternate ways to get home including GO Transit, Durham Transit, Taxi or a Designated Driver Service.

Do your part by following three simple steps:
Plan ahead and never drink and drive;
Dont allow your friends and family to drink and drive;
And if you see an impaired driver on our roads, call 911.
