Our Cops Can Shop & So Can Kids!

Dec 10, 2014 12:34 ET

Police officers and students shopped till they dropped thanks to the Pickering Town Centre.

The 9th Cop Shop event for Durham Region saw Durham Regional Police and the Pickering Town Centre team up to help 50 children complete their Christmas wish lists when they were each presented with a $200 gift card. Officers volunteered their time to be a personal shopper to one of 50 students, selected from different schools.

Cop Shop is a favourite event of ours every year, said Staff Sergeant Jeff Haskins. Our officers are always excited about the opportunity to be a part of this. Many of our officers completed a night shift but are up and ready to hit the stores.

Special thanks to DRPs coordinator Constable Dave Morton, who has a record number of kids participating this year, and to the Pickering Town Centre and East Side Marios.

East Side Marios treated everyone with a pizza lunch in order to fuel up for the days events. Even Santa stopped by to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and presented each child with a stocking.

The students impressed everyone with their generosity. Several students bought toys to donate to children in need. Now thats the spirit of giving.
