Durham Regional Police officers including the Traffic Services Branch - Regional Traffic Enforcement Unit, are conducting a one-week traffic safety initiative called In the Zone.
The project, which marks the first week back to school after the holidays, has officers from across the region targeting dangerous and aggressive drivers in or near school and community zones.
Motorists are reminded that there will be zero tolerance on any unlawful driving infractions or pedestrian actions in and around these zones. Officers will also be focussing on distracted driving which continues to be one of the Big 4 Killers (distracted driving, aggressive driving, impaired driving and not wearing seatbelts) on our roadways.
DRPS reminds all drivers to reduce speed, use extra caution in school zones and be mindful of children walking in the area.
Driving is a privilege not a right. Please drive safely.
