  DRPS Joins India's Heritage Day Celebrations

Members of DRPS recently joined community partners in Pickering celebrate India's Heritage Day. This month India marked 68 years of independence.

The event was held at the Esplanade Park and featured the raising of the Indian Flag to recognize the strong contributions of South Asian Canadians to both the City of Pickering and Durham Region.

Festivities included a walk to the Pickering Town Centre where the group heard from Deputy Chief Chris Fernandes and other local dignitaries including the Consul General of India, Mr. Misra and Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan. The speeches were followed by a cultural celebration.

The Heritage Day celebration was held in partnership with the Indo-Canadian Cultural Association of Durham, which aims to share the Indo-Canadian culture and heritage. DRPS has partnered with the Indo-Canadian Cultural Association since 2007, and shares its vision of building vibrant and culturally diverse communities in Durham Region.
