Proceeds from the 6th Annual Ontario Police Memorial Golf Tournament were presented to two charitable organizations Thursday at Regional Headquarters in Whitby.
The over $42,000 raised from this year's tournament was split between the Ontario Police Memorial Foundation and Pro Action Cops and Kids. The annual tournament was held at Deer Creek this past August. Members of the community and beyond picked up their golf clubs, and their wallets, in support of the fundraiser which was hosted by DRPS.
Over the past six years approximately $244,000 has been donated to the memorial from the proceeds of the tournament. The foundation was created to honour Ontario police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and a Ceremony of Remembrance is held at Queen's Park each year on the first Sunday in May. This year Pro Action Cops and Kids was included to support the great work this organization does in bringing officers together with youth to build positive relationships.
Mike Abbott from the Toronto Police Association thanked organizers who worked so hard to make this event happen. DRPS Constable Terry Rayner was thankful for everyone's generosity and is pleased to see how much the event has grown over the past six years. .
Special thanks go out to Constable Terry Rayner and DRPS committee members Detective Constables Ryan Rayner and Victor Alves, Constable Dan Weiner and civilian Kim Hook and York Regional Police members Susan Gibbs and Danielle Lehmkuhl for all their hard work and dedication to bring this tournament to fruition.
Without the support of all of the corporate sponsors and team of volunteers, the tournament would not have been the great success that it was. Thanks to everyone involved!
