Pickering Launches Durham's Largest Neigbourhood Watch

Nov 27, 2015 15:12 ET

Members in the South Rosebank (SoRo) community of Pickering gathered Friday to unveil the new Neighbourhood Watch sign on Rosebank Road and Granite Court.

This group represents the largest Neighbourhood Watch program in Durham Region's history, with 960 homes participating. Members worked in partnership with the SoRo Good Neighbours Association and DRPS to bring the important Neighbourhood Watch Program to the area.

Currently there are 203 Neighbourhood Watch Programs operating across Durham Region with more and more residents becoming proactive in keeping their communities safe. Neighbours working together and knowing each other's routines can work to effectively combat crime. Contacting police when something is out of the ordinary could very well stop a crime before it occurs.

For more information on endorsing a group or participating in Neighbourhood Watch, contact the Regional Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator at 905-579-1520 ext. 5610, or email neighwatch@drps.ca.
