  K-9 Handler of the Year

Detective Constable Corby Wright has been named the third annual DRPS K-9 Handler of the Year. D/Cst. Wright is well known for his positive attitude and approach to his work. Together with his K-9 partner Hemmi--who is known for his speed, having been clocked in excess of running 50 km/h--D/Cst. Wright has conducted a number of significant tracks and arrests during his time with the unit.

Chief Paul Martin presented D/Cst. Wright with the award and thanked him, as well as his other team members, for their dedication to this speciality unit. The officers and their K-9 partners attend a wide variety of calls every day, including searching for missing persons and suspects.

The K-9 Unit was formed in 1990 and this award is handed out annually in honour of founding member retired D/Cst. Peter Van Der Duim.

The 2016 DRPS K-9 Calendar is available for purchase at any Division or online at under Online Services. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar go to Alzheimers Society Durham and The Animal Guardian Society (TAGS).
