Baagwating Community Gives a Boost to the Toy Drive

Dec 02, 2015 14:44 ET

The DRPS Food & Toy Drive received an amazing boost from our friends at the Baagwating Community Association (BCA).

The BCA Board of Directors donated more than $3,000 worth of brand new toys to the 2015 campaign. This generous donation was part of the BCA's annual commitment to help local community agencies.

The funds are generated by the operation of the charity casino Great Blue Heron on Scugog Island. This year, more than $250,000 was donated back to local charities by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation to agencies such as food banks, Big Brother and Big Sisters, Denise House, Community Care and many others. Representatives from the community agencies in attendance also brought toys to add to the donation to the DRPS Food and Toy Drive.

Chairman of the BCA Board of Directors Gary Edgar said this event is one the board looks forward to each year as giving back to the community is very important to the Ojibwa people.

DRPS Chief Paul Martin and North Division Inspector Bruce Kovack were on hand to collect the toys and say thank you for such a generous donation.

"The toys you've donated today will go directly to local children in need this Christmas. On behalf of the DRPS, I would like to thank the Baagwating Community Association for their continued support," said Chief Martin. "Miigwech!"
