The 6th Annual Seniors' Christmas event kicked off Wednesday in Newcastle as officers and local students brought holiday cheer to the residents of Fosterbrooke Long Term care.
This event marked the first in a series of Seniors' Christmas visits planned across Durham Region over the next two weeks.
DRPS members and students visit with seniors, serve coffee and treats, sing carols and hand out gifts. The idea came about six years ago when two officers noticed how many seniors in our communities are alone over the holidays. The event started at one residence in Oshawa and has since grown to include visits across each municipality.
