Kids Check Off Their Lists at the Annual Cop Shop Event

Mar 06, 2017 09:53 ET

Over 30 children joined officers from DRPS Wednesday for the 10th Annual Cop Shop event at the Pickering Town Centre (PTC). The children, from Ajax and Pickering, were presented with a $200 gift card from PTC and spent the afternoon completing their holiday wish lists.

Before hitting the stores, the officers and kids enjoyed a pizza lunch, compliments of East Side Mario's at the PTC. Chief Paul Martin was on hand to thank all the officers who volunteered their time to act as "personal shoppers" for the kids. He also wished everyone a fun afternoon of shopping.

The children impressed everyone with their generosity as they made their way through the mall. Several purchased items for their family members and items to donate to other kids in need. In addition to shopping and lunch, the kids enjoyed a visit with Santa before getting all their gifts wrapped up.

The Cop Shop event was started several years ago by the Halifax Shopping Centre and ran at the same time in Halifax, Pickering, Winnipeg and Calgary. Hundreds of children participate in the Cop Shop event across Canada.

Thanks to everyone from DRPS, the Pickering Town Centre and East Side Mario's who worked hard to make this event a huge success this year.
